Since his recovery at Walter Reed, DJ served as a military advisor to Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England and as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ADM Mike Mullen. After six years of continual surgeries, rehab and recovery, DJ returned to the Infantry and deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.
